Background of the Study
Online influencers have emerged as powerful communicators in Nigeria, particularly through vlog narratives that reach diverse audiences in Abuja. These digital creators not only entertain but also shape language use by introducing innovative syntactic patterns into everyday speech (Akinola, 2023). Vlog narratives often blend conversational language with stylistic elements that reflect both traditional Nigerian English and global digital trends. Influencers employ unique syntactic constructions—such as fragmented sentences, code-mixing, and creative punctuation—to convey personality and connect with viewers (Olu, 2024). This study investigates how online influencers impact Nigerian syntax, examining the ways in which their vlog narratives introduce new sentence structures and linguistic innovations. The research analyzes video transcripts, viewer comments, and language patterns to understand the influence of digital media on syntax evolution. It also considers the role of audience engagement, social media dynamics, and cultural identity in driving these syntactic changes (Babatunde, 2025). Through a detailed comparative analysis, the study aims to document these trends and discuss their implications for both formal language education and everyday communication.

Statement of the Problem
Although online influencers significantly impact language trends, there is limited research on how their vlog narratives affect Nigerian syntax. The innovative syntactic patterns introduced by these influencers may challenge traditional grammatical norms and influence the linguistic habits of their audiences (Akinola, 2023). This can result in a divergence between formal language instruction and informal digital communication. The lack of systematic analysis on the syntactic effects of influencer-driven content leaves a gap in understanding how digital media reshapes language use (Olu, 2024). This study seeks to address these issues by investigating the syntactic features of vlog narratives in Abuja and assessing their influence on everyday language practices (Babatunde, 2025).

Objectives of the Study:

  1. To analyze the syntactic structures present in vlog narratives by online influencers.

  2. To evaluate the impact of these structures on standard Nigerian syntax.

  3. To propose recommendations for bridging formal and informal language use.

Research Questions:

  1. What syntactic innovations are prevalent in influencer vlog narratives?

  2. How do these innovations affect everyday language practices?

  3. What strategies can reconcile differences between formal and digital language norms?

Significance of the Study
This study is significant as it explores the role of online influencers in shaping Nigerian syntax through vlog narratives. By documenting syntactic innovations and their impact, the research informs both linguistic theory and digital communication practices. The findings will benefit educators, language planners, and digital media professionals, offering insights into the integration of innovative language trends into formal language instruction (Babatunde, 2025).

Scope and Limitations of the Study:
This study is limited to analyzing vlog narratives from online influencers based in Abuja and does not cover other forms of digital content or regions.

Definitions of Terms:

  • Syntax: The set of rules governing sentence structure.

  • Vlog Narratives: Video blog posts that document personal experiences and opinions.

  • Online Influencers: Individuals who shape public opinion through digital media content.
